Monday November 13th 2006An unseasonable and very strong cold front was beginning to make its mark on the atmosphere this day, even though it was not to pass through the region till Wednesday. As a result of the system, wind shear throughout the atmosphere was very, very strong, and any storms developing in the unstable atmosphere lying over NE NSW were likely to move at around 100km/hr. Late in the afternoon a squall line developed west of the Great Divide and started marching very quickly towards the coast. Just on dusk the line was located just W of Kyogle, and I watched as a very CG active cell in the line began to move in from the NW. Despite some incredible lightning over the next few hours from several cells that developed, I didn't get any decent lightning photos. It was just one of those nights where you manage to miss every decent CG. Never the less, it was still enjoyable to watch the spectacular show.
Nice to see someone else was able to get some photos - this image was taken by Cheyne Werner from Casino as the storms passed through town.
